Mmmmmm......
Every day when my daughter comes home from school I ask her how her day was, what she learned, what she played at recess, etc... One day when I was asking her what she ate for lunch she said, "Oh, a cheese zombie." After a second of contemplating a zombie in a hot tub full of cheese sauce I said, "WHAT?!?!?!" A very large sigh and eye roll from my daughter later, she said," Mom, it's like a cheese sandwich." I was at a MOPS meeting a few days later and a friend confirmed their existence. She also confessed her "undying" love for them and proceeded to drool enough to fill a small wading pool. Being a cheese and bread fan myself, (and being a "I can do that person", I will blog about it later) I thought, "I could make that." So I ventured forth and found my much loved breadstick recipe I received from a friend and tweaked it to make this deliciousness. Enjoy!
Cheese zombies
1 T yeast
2 T sugar
1 1/2 c warm water (not hot)
Mix together and let sit 5 minutes.
Add:
3 1/2 c flour
1 t salt
Mix for 2 minutes and let sit in bowl covered with a towel for 15 minutes or until about double in size.
Melt 1 stick (8 T) of butter in cake pan. Pour dough into buttered pan, cut in half and roll in butter. Place half of the dough back in the bowl used for rising. Take the other half and spread it out on the bottom of the pan. Switch the halves of dough and spread out the one you just moved to the pan. Cut the cheese (my husband and every 8 year old boy would be laughing) into thin strips and place on top of dough in pan and place the rest of the dough on top of the cheese. Bake 400 12-15 min. Yum.....
Note: Big T stands for Tablespoon and small t stands for teaspoon. If you can't figure out what c means exit the kitchen immediately and go find someone who knows what it means to make this for you. Also, the dough will rise very quickly and if you are in a hurry you don't need to let it rise at all. It will do a lot of rising in the oven.
